Marijuana defense lawyer Neil Shouse spent five years as a Los Angeles Deputy
District Attorney. He prosecuted every type of California Marijuana offense,
from simple possession to sales and transportation of Marijuana. He worked closely
with police agencies across Southern California in putting together Marijuana
prosecutions.
At the D.A.'s Office, Mr. Shouse grew disillusioned with an oppressive court
system that punishes marijuana defendants for using or cultivating
a harmless substance--a substance much less toxic to humans than alcohol.
He no longer wanted to be part of it.
Marijuana criminal defense Attorney Shouse "defected" from the D.A.'s
Office and now defends citizens accused of Marijuana "crimes." He
draws on his law enforcement background and experience to help clients defend
their rights, avoid criminal conviction and stay out of jail.

The Real Facts About Marijuana
Marijuana is the most commonly used drug in the United States, with as many
as 100 million Americans having tried it. A recent study conducted by the National
Survey on Drug Use and Health found that over 25 million Americans use marijuana
every year.
Although it was prohibited by the Federal government in 1937, research has
shown that marijuana is much less dangerous or toxic to humans than many legal
substances, such as tobacco and alcohol.
Approximately 400,000 deaths are attributed to tobacco each year, as well as
countless cases of lung cancer. In addition to the 50,000 cases of fatal alcohol
poisoning occurring each year, there are other dangerous consequences associated
with alcohol, including cirrhosis of the liver. Marijuana is not a toxic substance
and there is no proof that it has ever caused a person to die from an overdose.
An individual who smokes marijuana is arrested every 41 seconds in the United
States. There were about 771,608 marijuana arrests made in the U.S. in 2004,
which makes up approximately 44% of all drug related arrests in the country.
More people are arrested for marijuana than for serious narcotics such as cocaine,
heroine or methamphetamine.
Many of these so-called "Marijuana drug offenders" are serving jail
terms for non-violent offenses. In fact, there are more drug related arrests
made annually, than arrests made for violent crimes, such as rape, murder, and
robbery combined.
